Original Medicare covers a lot — but not everything. Copays, coinsurance, and hospital costs can add up fast, leaving Arkansas seniors with bills they didn't expect. A Medicare Supplement plan (also called Medigap) fills those gaps so you know exactly what you'll pay — and what you won't. As a licensed independent insurance agent in Arkansas, I help seniors across the state compare Medigap plans and lock in the best rate.
Medicare Part A and Part B leave several significant gaps that can cost you thousands per year:
Covers everything Medicare leaves behind except the Part B deductible ($257 in 2025). After you meet that small deductible once per year, Plan G pays 100% of your remaining Medicare-approved costs. No copays, no coinsurance, no surprises. This is the plan most of my Arkansas clients choose.
Similar to Plan G but with small copays — up to $20 for office visits and up to $50 for ER visits. Premiums are typically $20–$40/month lower than Plan G. A good fit for healthy seniors who don't visit the doctor often.
Same coverage as Plan G but you pay a higher deductible ($2,870 in 2025) before benefits kick in. Monthly premiums can be as low as $40–$60. Best for seniors who are healthy and want catastrophic protection at minimal cost.
The most comprehensive plan — covers the Part B deductible too. Only available to people who became Medicare-eligible before January 1, 2020. If you qualify, it's worth comparing to Plan G.
The best time to enroll is during your Medigap Open Enrollment Period — the 6-month window that starts the month you turn 65 and are enrolled in Medicare Part B. During this window, insurance companies cannot deny you coverage or charge you more based on health conditions. After this window closes, you may be subject to medical underwriting, which can result in higher premiums or denial of coverage.
Don't wait. Locking in your rate while you're young and healthy is the single best thing you can do to keep your Medicare costs predictable for life.
